How to play Critter Volley
Pick one of six critters: Shiba, Kitty, Bunny, Panda, Penguin or Capybara. Each has its own small strength, like the fast Kitty, the high-jumping Bunny or the heavy-spiking Panda. Then face off across the net. Keep the beach ball off your side of the sand and land it on theirs. The first to 11 points wins. Play the CPU on three difficulty levels, or grab a friend and share one keyboard.
Controls
- 1P vs CPU: ← → or A D to move, ↑ or W to jump, Space in the air to spike
- 2P: Player 1 uses A D W + F to spike. Player 2 uses ← → ↑ + Enter to spike.
- Hold up while spiking for a high lob, or down for a steep smash.
- P to pause, Esc is the boss key. On phones, use the on-screen buttons.
Tips
- Stand slightly behind the ball, away from the net, so your bump sends it forward.
- Jump early and press spike just before you reach the ball.
- Spikes from the back of the court tend to hit the net. Smash close to the net, and lob from far back.
A tribute to a 90s classic
Critter Volley is an original remake inspired by the 1990s two-player beach volleyball freeware that was on every school computer. The characters, art, code and sound are all brand new; only the simple, competitive gameplay idea is kept.
